Post Flood Trail Condition Report By Ray Zajac Beginning at Shickshinny there is some surface washout in town as already noted by Lance Kittelson. Starting into the woods going toward the Garden Drive-In there is a stretch of 2”to 3” mud. At the end of the woods there is a tree down.
Shickshinny Woods Looking toward Shickshinny, tree down, two logs, two tires and 5” to 6” thick accumulation of sticks.
“Tree #1” Close up of tree at the end of Shickshinny woods.
“Mud Leaving Shickshinny” Small washout and several inch accumulation of mud.
“Mud Along 11” More mud just leaving town.
“Surface Washout” Example of top layer fine surface removed.
“Mud 2” Inch of mud-sand over surface. There is a small washout just before the first tree down at mile marker 5.
“Tree #2” Mile marker 5 is visible in the picture as is the next tree, Tree #3.
“Tree #3” Just after 5 mile marker.
“Washed Log” Previously cut tree moved to new position over edge of trail.
“Tree #4” Third tree above the 5 mile marker.
“Surface Wash #2” Slight washout with some larger stones remaining.
“Mudslide” Mudslide 12” to 15” deep ½ way across the trail. About 5 ½ miles.
“Old Washout” Original washout from last year now larger and deeper in the trail. The cone was there.
“Old Washout #2” Second picture of same washout.
“Gravel Deposit” Washout and gravel accumulation 6” to 10” deep just past original washout.
“Fine Gravel” Fine gravel washed into trail 4” to 6” deep.
“Log”
“Drainpipe” Hole in the edge of the trail in woods above 5 ½ mile mark.
“Tree 5” “Tree 5 & Debris” and “Tree 5B”.
“Tree 6” At about 5 ¾ mile.
“Washout 6mi” Coarse stones on the trail.
Logs
“Tree 7” in woods before 6 mile mark.
“Tree 8” Multiple trees, one from each side. About 6 mile mark.
“Tree 9” Above 6 mile mark. Next tree is sight.
“Tree 10-11” Two trees 6 ¼ mile.
“Mud 3” Slight washout and several inches of mud just before the field at the cemetery. Note tree 12 in the distance.
“Tree 12” At field at cemetery. Tree 13 in background.
“Tree 12B” Second shot to give perspective. About 26” diameter.
“Tree 13” Just before cemetery.
“Tree 13B” Same tree looking South. There is about 1” of mud-sand covering the surface of the trail the entire length along the field at the cemetery.
“Tree 14” Just above entrance to cemetery. Tree 15 in distance.
“Tree 15” Actually two trees down. Notice large tree leaning over the trail.
“Tree 16” Tree 16.

“Tree 17” Just inside woods North of boat launch.
“Tree 18” 100 feet past tree 17.
“Tree 19” 100 feet past tree 18.
“Tree 20” On firing range fence.
“Tree 21” Second tree on firing range fence. Tree 22 in distance.
“Tree 22” Along fence. Surface is rolling and bumpy along the entire length of the firing range fence. Gravel was washed and re-deposited.
“Log Washout” Washout 8”to 12” deep where water swirled around log.
“Log Washout B” Better angle to see depth of washout.
“Washout FR Fence” Top surface washed away. Coarse material exposed.
“Tree Cut” This tree was already cut in prison maintenance area.
“Tree Cut B” Close-up of cut tree.
“Mud 4” Some of the thickest mud on the entire trail just below first curve south of bridge to prison.
“Mud 5” More mud 2” to 3” thick. Above the prison bridge the 8.5 mile post is lying on the left side of the trail when heading north. A lot of the surface needs dressing from slight wash and redeposit.
“Gravel over Paved” Debris and gravel on paved wash-over zone.
“UGI tree” Tree on UGI fence already cut.
“Wash at UGI tree” 4” to 6” deep washout from where tree was down.
“Gravel Pile” Hard to see in picture but grave from up trail is accumulated about 12” thick.
“Coarse Subsurface” Just above where the gravel is accumulated in “Gravel Pile” picture. Surface is washed down to coarse subsurface. About 100 feet of fine material is washed out and accumulated in the gravel pile photo.
“Bump above UGI” This is where the trail goes over a slight hill just above the UGI gas tank field.
“UGI Bump 2” Close-up of washout.
Side rails missing at north end of bridge. Significant drop-off to stream.
“Standing water” Low spot above old RR station.
“Sumac” Sumac down above old RR station.
“Slight Wash” Small washout and mud accumulation between B&E and GAS.

“Fence Hole” Hole along edge of trail at sheet metal fence.
“Kontweed” Knotweed and mud at curve-dip above ABC.
“Tree 23” Near end in woods.
“Tree 24” Second tree just below Drive-In. There is a lot of mud just before the turn to the last straight section at the Drive-In.
“Parking Garden” Hunlock parking area.
